God is a Line

This morning at 7 AM, I appeared on the Rob Sherman show on WJJG-AM 1530 (Chicago).

He is a liberal atheist activist who is also a lawyer...I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion.

One of the topics concerned God and geometry.

A line has no beginning and no end.
A ray has a beginning and no end.
A line segment has a beginning and an end.

Rob Sherman said if tangible matter has always existed, then there can't be a God because reality would have to be a ray and God is a line.

God is definitely a line...He has always existed and He will never end.

If tangible matter always existed, Rob Sherman would be right.
However, tangible matter is a ray.
This means it came into existence as an effect of intangible causes.

These intangible causes could be traced back to a First Cause that is intangible and causeless. As we've seen before, the only thing that fits this description are principles.

The principles of right and just have always existed and will always exist...they can't be created or cease to exist.

God the Father is always completely right and always completely just...

...this is the only non-contradictory model for God.

Do we REALLY want to end division?

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with people who want change but have no solutions.

Whether it is in their marriage, with their friends, church, addictions, society...the problem is people don't know what to DO.

The key is to DO the opposite of the problem.

Here are two philosophical points that you may want to chew on for awhile:
1. You can't DO nothing
2. You can't stop DOING something by stop doing it

You have to DO something that is the opposite of the problem in order to overcome it. The key is finding the opposite. For instance, if we wanted an end to racism, the key isn't to be nice.

Don't we think previous generations have tried this?
Aren't the overwhelming majority of people trying to be nice?
What is the first thing you think when a "nice person" says, "I'm not a racist, but..."?

The core issue is that people are comparative...they think they are right and that hearing another opinion is wrong...some even think it is a sin.

People try to be nice AND they try to prove they are right.

When these people get stressed, guess which goal they go for?
They don't continue to be nice...they continue proving they are right...even if they are wrong.

The key to ending division in society is to be contrastive...to consider you are wrong.

I'm not saying to agree that you are wrong...CONSIDER you are wrong...actively look for how you COULD be wrong and how others COULD be right. There is a HUGE difference between understanding and agreement.

If the people in our society who have money and claim to want to eradicate division REALLY wanted to do this, they would teach the younger generation this message. How about it Oprah? Wozniak? Gates?

The funny thing is we already teach this to new drivers!

Defensive driving is the same mentality...

Why don't we teach defensive judgment?

Maybe we REALLY want everyone to run into each other...
