Yesterday, we saw that Jesus' objectives while He was on earth was to serve. He was a true LEADER because His objectives were to facilitate the purpose on progress of OTHERS. There were no perks or benefits to Jesus...it was ALL a burden. LEADERSHIP is a responsibility.
There are some who will say that is a fact, but it was NOT Jesus' Long Term (ultimate) objective. His ultimate objective was to be the LEADER in His Kingdom. However, they would also say His ultimate objective was to be in charge...and THAT certainly benefited Him. These people would say that ultimately, Jesus' LEADERSHIP is about perks and benefits. It is NOT a burden. It is NOT a responsibility.
Let's look at Jesus' Long Term objective...
"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." (Luke 2:10-12)
Notice, from the first announcement to mankind, Jesus' earthly objective is stated (Saviour)...AND there is objective proof given (a sign).
However, there is an announcement about Jesus that precedes this one by hundreds of years and it has the same sort of phrasing "unto you is born"...
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The Zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this." (Isaiah 9:6-7)
Notice, this is Jesus' Long Term objective!
In yesterday's post, we saw that Jesus said He DIDN'T come to bring peace, but division. THAT (division) was His objective while on earth. His Long Term objective results in peace...in fact, the INCREASE of His peace will have no end. This passage specifically speaks about Jesus and His Kingdom...His Long Term objective.
The passage talks about the government (singular) being on His shoulders...AND the increase of His government (singular) having no end. This is not referring to anytime where there is more than one nation. This can only refer to the time when there is only ONE government...eternity in Heaven. So, is THIS the perk and benefit people are talking about?
Read the passage closely...the government is on His SHOULDER...Jesus is UNDER EVERYTHING He is governing! The government is NOT under His feet. He is NOT using the government as a footstool. Jesus is supporting the government...He is serving it. If you don't believe this, let's look at the word for "shoulder"...
Shoulder in this passage is 7926 "shekem" from 7925; the neck (between the shoulders) as the place of burdens.
7925 shakam (a prim. root); to incline (the shoulder to a burden); literally to load up (on the back of man or beast)
Jesus' ultimate Long Term objective is a burden. He is the ultimate LEADER because He bears EVERYONE'S burden for eternity...and it is only going to continually increase without end.
Jesus' objective is Long Term Profitability.
