ICRS Orlando

Just a quick note to say I'm back from the International Christian Retailer's Show. We will continue the Meaning of Life discussion on Monday with "The Tarsus Code"...a week-long look at the non-fiction book written in code about Jesus' wedding that we OUGHT to have been reading instead of the fictional work written by Dan Brown.

I've updated the previous post with some information and observations from a USAToday Article, so don't be afraid to read "Part 3: The Answer" again. Also, at the end of that post I have links to the most popular and most controversial posts from this blog.

I found out they re-aired an interview I did last year on WMUZ with Bob Dutko. I taped an interview at the ICRS and will post a link when it airs. Also, remember that I'm available to speak at colleges and churches.

I met some amazing people at ICRS and learned a ton that I will be sharing throughout August. I also have some enlightening and amusing stories...

By the way, I got a book endorsement from the guy at the top of this post...he's really easy to talk to!

The Holy Land Experience is an amusement park in Orlando that recreates Biblical settings. They have "characters". At the show, they brought a centurion and "Jesus". These people roamed the aisles to draw attention to their booth which was in the corner of the show and deep in the heart of the "trinkets" section...some call it "Jesus junk".

Last year I went to the show for the first time and had a hard time walking around it...HAVE and DO ruled the aisles. I kept calling friends and bemoaning the commercialism.

I can't tell you how much joy it brought me to see "Jesus" walking the aisles on Day One. The funny thing is people were afraid of him.

I walked up to him and he was EXTREMELY nice...easy to talk to. I asked him if I could take a picture and he was very gracious. I had to take the picture with my phone 6 or 7 times because I was laughing so hard I kept shaking...he was patient and gracious.

The next morning, five minutes before the show, they made an announcement to the exhibitors: No business is to be done in the aisles. All business should be done in your booth. This means "characters" are not allowed to walk the aisles.

I felt like they should have added: "This means you Jesus."

I felt like the trinket salespeople must have complained. Think about it...you are selling Jesus pencils, porcelain Mary's, etc. and out of the corner of your eye you see Jesus walking towards your booth. Their heart must have skipped a beat!

This year was so much better for me than last year. I met some amazing people and learned some facts that will improve your life and the lives of your friends. I will share all of this in the month of August.

Despite the people I met and the things I learned, my favorite moment is still seeing "Jesus" walked down the ICRS aisles...

...it always warms my heart and brings a smile to my face.
