Our Thought Process: Remembering

This month, we are covering a seemingly simple concept that has powerful, revelatory, and wide ranging applications: Right-Right vs Right-Wrong...Right WHAT-Right HOW/WHY vs. Right WHAT-Wrong (or NO) HOW/WHY.

The overview for the rest of this Series is that God wants our brain to have Profitable Thought Processes. The enemy and our flesh wants our brain to have Unprofitable Thought Processes.

In the previous post, we covered The Second Feedback Loop:

The Second Feedback Loop results in the brain possessing accurate information.

This information is composed of facts (thoughts and actions) and emotions (feelings and attitudes about the actions).

A Profitable Thought Process would complete The Second Feedback Loop.

An Unprofitable Thought Process would fail to complete The Second Feedback Loop or complete it with inaccurate information...causing future First Feedback Loops to be Unprofitable.

Today, we will look at our ability to remember...

OUR THOUGHT PROCESS: REMEMBERING
In a post from the Brain Series titled, "The Sixth Stimulus", we saw the following:

"Recall, we saw the feedback loop for creating a full thought can begin through any one of the five senses. A stimulus comes from one of the sense and the thalamus begins a feedback loop that includes the stimulus, an emotion, and a memory. This feedback loop can be repeated to created a bigger thought before being sent to the amygdala."

"There is a sixth way to begin this process...intentional thought. The individual can choose to create a stimulus. Once the individual settles on a stimulus, the same process is initiated. In fact, the body physically doesn't treat this "artificial", internal stimulus any different than an external stimulus through the five senses."

"There are two ways we can internally initiate this feedback loop: memory and imagination. These are two key ways our ability to think is different than animals. Animals don't intentionally choose to internally initiate the feedback loop by memory and imagination. Dogs don't reminisce about being a puppy. Cats don't intentionally imagine fantasies."

We have seen that Spiritual Warfare involves faith.

Faith is based on experience and understanding.

So, Spiritual Warfare is based on the experience and understanding supporting the WORDS and SENTENCES that we state.

Memory concerns experience!

Your ability to be successful at Spiritual Warfare depends on whether your memory serves you or you serve your memory.

An animal remembers as an effect...in response. Something happens (stimulus) and the animal's brain goes looking for an emotion and a connecting thought...from the animal's memory.

The same is true for us. However, we can remember as a cause. We can hinder our ability to remember during The First Feedback Loop because of fear. We can also intentionally choose to begin The First Feedback Loop by looking for a specific memory.

This means our memory can serve us or hinder us. Our memory can help us be Profitable or Unprofitable. Our memory is responsible for one half of our Thought Process.

Intentionally bringing up memories can build our faith and direct our actions. In the post titled, "The Sixth Stimulus", we saw how David did this. David is in the Faith Hall of Fame. David intentionally used his memory to build his faith before confronting Goliath. David intentionally remembered that he had successfully confronted a bear and a lion.

Intentionally bringing up memories can also limit damage that "response memories" can cause. If an individual doesn't deal with an Unprofitable memory, then it can set off the amygdala and result in damage. In the post titled, "Ever Learning", we saw how the amygdala is part of the "Unaware Brain". It detects patterns and can cause the body to take physical action apart from the individual's awareness!

People who have memories they haven't dealt with can go into a "blind rage" when these memories are accessed. They can take action that they are completely unaware...and consequently have no conscious memory of their actions.

Wow...these memories sound like "strongholds"...a source of ammunition and resources for the enemy that is safely protected for the enemy within our "territory" (brain). However, I am getting ahead of ourselves...

The key point is that the Profitability of an individual's Though Process partly depends on whether the individual's memories are based on TRUTH...do the memories create or do they destroy?

The first step would be to make sure the individual's memories are FACTUAL.

The second step would be to make sure the individual's memories create...which would ONLY occur if the memories are UNDERSTOOD.

Tomorrow, we will look at our ability to understand...

SUMMARY
Spiritual Warfare is based on the experience and understanding supporting the WORDS and SENTENCES that we state.

Your ability to be successful at Spiritual Warfare depends on whether your memory serves you or you serve your memory.

Memories can ONLY serve you when they are factual and understood.

This post reminds me of something I've always thought somewhat fishy.

The idea that the brain can't tell the difference between a real experience is often used as evidence for the 'fake it until you make it' mentality.

Clearly if you simply create false memories all the time the concept doesn't hold.

So, the idea that the memories have to be factual and understood explain why you can't just 'imagine' yourself into something.

I guess ultimately that idea would be right-wrong.
