Luke 1:76-79

This year we are covering the four Gospel Accounts together in chronological order.

In the previous post, we covered Luke 1:67-75. Here was the conclusion:

Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit. He began by speaking of God's everlasting covenant with Israel, God's messianic covenant with David, and eternity in paradise.

Luke 1
"76 Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people In the remission of their sins,"

(Zacharias began prophesying about his son John. John the Baptist would be called the prophet of the Most High. Zacharias also confirmed what Gabriel stated: John the Baptist would make ready the people by giving them knowledge of salvation through the remission of sins.)

"78 Because of the tender mercy of our God, Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us,
79 To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into the way of peace."

(In verse 78, the word "dayspring" meant east...as a reference to where the sun rose. This referenced the light from God that would come to us so that we would be able to make progress in God. We will see that John's Gospel Account stated John the Baptist was not The Light...but bore witness to The Light which was Jesus.)

CONCLUSION
Zacharias prophesied by the Holy Spirit concerning his son John. John would be called the prophet of the Most High and make ready the people by giving them knowledge of salvation through the remission of sins.
